Dear all,

There's been recent consternation from various people about how films scan,
with regard to speed and the so-called grain aliasing effect. I thought
people might be interested to see some examples of 2700dpi scans , so I've
done a few and put them online at:

http://www.worldtraveller.f9.co.uk/photo/scanstuff

All photos scanned with my Acer Scanwit 2720S. I've put sections of full
resolution scans from Fuji Velvia & Superia 400, Ilford XP-2 400 and Kodak
T-max 400, as well as the full frame resampled down to 700px wide. I
scanned the black and white films in both colour and black and white modes.
Files are saved as fairly high quality jpegs, with filesizes of 150K or so.
I could send people the original bitmap files if anyone is interested, but
they look to all intents and purposes identical to the jpegs to me.

I'd be interested to know whether other people see a similar amount of grain
on their 400 speed scans - it doesn't look unacceptable to me, on any of the
scans, and the resampled versions are beautifully smooth.

Cheers,
Roger
