You are right Walt, but there is are 2 particular reasons why the Tamron
mount is so prone to breakage.
First, it is not as robustly made as many mounts. Most designs simply
can't be broken by over tightening the screw.
Second, it is not adequately rigid under fairly normal strain in use.
There is flex in the mount itself due to bending of the metal. If this
is not understood, it is easy to feel the movement with your hands,
assume it is looseness and try tightening the screw further - leading to
breakage.
Not everyone is as loose as Walt. I guess I'm not either, but at least I
investigated the movement I felt when using it in the field on a monopod
and didn't break it either.

Correct. It is not available and Keck Ind. hasn't made their aftermarket
one for some time either.
