Let me answer your question this way. There are two tripods in the back of
my SUV, firmly held in place with the bean bags I occasionally use to steady
the 400mm + teleconverter which sits on the heavier of the two. The other is
a Gitzo Explorer with the small Kirk ball head. Although most of my cameras
have a quick release plate more or less permanently attached to them, I will
also shoot hand held. I can do that at slower speeds with the e-1. Some of
my work uses camera movement as one of the creative elements and that does
not usually involve a tripod. Bill Barber
