C*n*n's pricing structure is observable with respect to discounts, or
at least cheaper prices, actually. The price of a model tends to drop
fairly precipitously right before a new model comes out. 1D prices
fell to well below $3000 at a no. of legitimate vendors (B&H, Samy's)
in Dec. 2003 before the Mk II came out in Spring '04. I think Samy's
had whatever remaining 1Ds priced at $2595 around that time, which is
considerably less than the used, but mint, one I bought in May of '03
for $3100. I bought a "refurb" D60 at the end of 2002 for $1600 (at
the time a new D60 was $2295) at Keeble and Schuchat. To this day I
am convinced that this was a perfectly new camera that C*n*n boxed in
refurb packaging so as to clear out stocks of D60's before the 10D
came out in, you guessed it, Spring of '03. This camera has
performed flawlessly since the day I bought it and continues to do so
to this day. I'm thinking of having it converted to a Infrared D-SLR.
Right now, 20D prices are hovering around $1199 as the replacement
for the 20D is slated to hit the market at PMA at the end of this month.

Speaking of 20D's, I am selling my 20D for $999 if anyone is
interested contact me off list; It was bought new in July. I am
thinking of getting a 5D (if they can fix their "dust in the
viewfinder" problem soon) for stock photography, Getty will take
images from 8.2 megapixel cameras, but prefers the largest files you
can provide.
