Yes, excellent shot.  Definitely Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias).  But 
you need the "Great" in there since there are also Little Blue Herons. 
The white feathers around the head are distictive for Great Blues.  The 
feather plumes only occur on adults.  Other herons might have plumes as 
well but I don't think you'd be likely to see them in your neck of the 
woods.

I think you're in western Massachusetts, right?  According to my 
Peterson's guide you're a little outside the normal breeding range 
although they're quite common along the coast of Massachusetts.  Count 
yourself lucky to have some Great Blues to photograph.
