My strategy of buying laptop is to buy when I really need in the price range
of $800. Not more than a year a $3000 laptop would go less than $800 anyway,
the only reason for people buying top notch laptops is for extreme mobile 3D
gaming. And the laptop is 18lb, you would rarely want to carry anywhere, why
don't consider a more power Desktop with huge LCD screen. Within $1500 you
could get a dual core EMT64 woodcrest + 8G ram + faster raid controller
which would more than photoshop2009 would ever need, you could also get more
memory with a good mother board since memory isn't limited to 4G per process
as the 32bit machine. IMHO, the XPS is not cost effective, it would slightly
faster than my E1405 with 5 times more expensive.
Raid 0 is scarely to me, it's fast, but have no redudancy, I would go for at
least raid 01 if I'm in a critical mission..
