Consider buying a pair while travelling. Here in China, $40-odd got me
bifocals with astigmatism correction, not a difficult prescription, with
Chinese frames. Highest anyone I know has spent was $250 or so,
with imported frames and complex lens.
One guy I know figures he saved enough getting some heavy
dentistry done here to pay for his return ticket from Australia.
Of course, it isn't just China. India has better English, likely
better quality control, ... and lots of other places are cheaper
than the Western world for most things.
