But that will require a Sony sensor, as the current Nikon FF sensor can't be
made larger to give more MP, the photosites need to be made smaller, and
that will be some trick. Since this is Nikon's first effort, although they
have quite a history in making the machines that make the chips, thye don't
have the manufacturing depth to produce. Further, they will need to redesign
the chip with smaller sites, and the microlenses won't be a picnic to redo,
either.
It would not surprise me if he ~24MP sensor will arrive with Nikon's new
matrix design.
