How about the number of trees wasted when I lop an unused chunk off from 
every A3 sheet because of an unappealing aspect ratio?

At least the English system was devised by tradesfolk who actually built 
the ivory towers. In my trade I find the mm to be a rather poorly 
conceived unit.
