I use AVG, Spybot, and Zone Alarm -- all the free versions. Each is
trying to be my Everything, so they are increasingly overlapping their
capabilities, but these still seem to work well together. I really
like Zone Alarm. I don't know if it is especially effective, I just
like to watch the traffic. I also use an old freeware program called
"Startup Inspector." There are many variations of this program, which
allows you to keep various things you didn't authorize to load up in
memory from doing so, but Startup Inspector is just one I'm familiar
with.

Anyway AVG is still pretty much OK in my book, but I'll keep Avast in
mind. I recall you've mentioned it before.
