My Chrysler T&C has a radio enabled key such that the car senses its 
presence.  The car's "lock-all-doors" switch on the driver's and 
passenger's doors will operate with you standing outside the car with 
the door open.  A day or two ago I posted a question (to self really) 
whether the locks would behave any differently if the key was outside 
its short radio range.  No, the car doesn't care.  It will still lock 
the doors.  But it does do it instantly and audibly so it would still be 
difficult for you to lock yourself out accidentally.
