I’m sure that you’re right, Brian. Also there might have been fewer places to
repair or replace a tyre.
On that subject, I drove in Madrid a few weeks ago and the road surface was
utterly beautiful: there was very little noise or vibration from the road. If
only we had roads like that in the UK . . .
