The version I have uses the TWAIN compliant scan software, so you can
scan within an application, but it goes through Nikons interface to do
so.  This means that the rotation must be done in the software after
control has returned to it from the TWAIN interface.  Thats not such a
problem, but preview in portrait mode certainly is.

It certainly appears to be a lot better, and the contrast range is much
greater than the 24bit range of the scanner, since it has 'shadow' and
'highlight' spot metering functions just like the OM-4 to get the best
settings for the A to D converters.
