The screen brightness does not affect the AUTO mode.

I did a test with an OM-1 with lenses from 18-200mm on an constant light
source.
The ordenary series 1 screens (1-13, 1-1) showed no deviation with
different lenses. 
The series 2 screens showed an deviation from   -0.5 to +1 stop. The
200mm was 0.5 stop slower, the 50mm 1 stop brigther and the other 0.5
stop brighter.

Hama sells an third party one, it´s make is not as good as the Olympus
one (but they used more metall than Olympus), the hood for the eye is of
softer rubber than the Olympus one and will adapt to the eye more easy.
