The concern is rapid of cooling of the bulb adversely affecting filament
life. On my aging Kodak Carousel, I've always used "fan only" to cool the
bulb after use. Failing to do that drastically shortened bulb life in my
experience. However, my experience was back in the 1970's, and I haven't
changed my projector or my practices since those days. I have changed the
bulb every few hundred hours or so. The whole issue probably akin to the
question of warming up an automobile engine by idling prior to loading it by
driving off. Some advocate one side, some advocate the other. I've got over
500,000 miles on my two diesel VW's, both of which I bought new. I generally
try to let them warm up by idling before driving off, unless there's an
urgent need to get under way at once....
