Hi folks,

UK weekly Amateur Photographer has a review of the OM2000 as its main cover
story (an "exclusive") this week. It makes for interesting reading.

"Like an unwanted baby, the OM2000 has been virtually denied by its
parents. When the camera was announced in the Japanese business press we
make a point of requesting a review sample from the UK distributors
[Olympus UK, no less]. The response we got was a rather suprising one.
Olympus UK as not going to be promoting the OM2000 and wasn't all that keen
for us to test it."

Yes, that's right, the official importers couldn't be bothered to sell it
(I can barely hide my incredulity). I'm suprised they're still in business.

Value for money:
"At £250 the OM2000 is, at first glance, overpriced compared with other
cameras offering similar specifications. However, it is not quite as
similar in spec to the low-cost cameras as it first implies. Spotmetering,
multiple exosure, depth of field preview - these arenot traditonally found
on the bargain-basement manual-only models. While the 35-70 zoom lens [the
Cosina-made S f/3.5-5.6] wil not win any prizes compared with the
extraordinary clarity of the Zuiko 35-70 [sic] f/2.8 that comes with the
OM3Ti, the link between them is the OM mount. There is still a huge market
in secondhand Olympus lenses."

Final verdict: "I must admit that I was not filled with joy at the prospect
of this test, but with the exception of the very clunky shutter, I've
rather grown to like this camera. Who knows, despite the company's best
efforts, this model might well be an unexpected success story for Olympus."

It scores 850verall. Anyone who wants to contact Olympus UK, tel: (+44)

exchange number changes).
