I use a system with bayonet hoods (Can-not-an-OM-on) but don't really see a big advantage in the long run. Over time the bayonet lugs on the hoods wear and don't fit snugly anymore. Maybe other systems use better materials.

For my tastes the slip-on, clamp-on hoods are an elegantly quirky solution. Anything that keeps the hood and lens together in the same compartment beats a separate screw-in hood. But even those aren't all that much trouble.

I think that lens shades are the one big screw up that Maitani made.
If you have ever used bayonet lens shades, anything else is just
primitive. If Oly can do it on the lens cap, why not the shade?
