Ah, but jealousy is a curse and I'm trying to control mine! I live in a
forest so even cable TV is a problem - they tried but a falling branch
dragged a power line down on to the recently installed cable and cooked
about four kilometres of fibre optic.
I guess I have this concern for the poor fools who get overexcited in the
thrash of an auctions and pay way over the odds - in the same way I pity
gambling addicts. It bothers me. I am no W.C. Fields. I comfort myself when
I get a serious bargain from a dealer or pawnbroker by telling myself that
they ought to know their own business better.
For selling, having been an advertising copywriter in a previous
incarnation, I've found the best results come from a 'cute' description. I
recently got more than I should have for an EOS620 body, a beater, because
I described it as "battle scarred; a survivor of the S11 demonstration in
Melbourne; want to look like a real photojournalist?" I wasn't lying but it
was functional but rough looking long before - that's why I took it. Still,
I guess someone's now got a conversation piece!
Andrew
