It advances the film in the take up spool of the 150 exposure back.  You do
realize that you need to be on the lookout for this now don't you?

There is a rubber thrust washer between the motor and the end of the gear
train.  Either it's returning to the primordial goo it was made from, or: weak
batteries, or: the battery holder is bent from battery pressure and is not 
connecting with the winder well. John Hermanson, or Clint at Photosphere can
fix it.

Yes. Also, the unmarked areas I believe are also continuous advance.
