Quite the reverse - I'd want a 'soft' filter ring to absorb any punishment!
I've seen some Hoya ones that had a rubber coating. The aim is to protect,
not transmit the shock.
Schott glass with a rubberised edge, a brass body to avoid binding and an
'O' ring would be perfect.
