[OM] Too Good to Photograph

I had that problem at the Highland Games (feeling that I just can't take a
worthy photo). A photograph just doesn't do a massing of the bands justice.
All that sound! I get all choked up and feel that a photograph is so
insufficient. In the great outdoors, how do you capture the total experience
(the 360 degree view, the smell, the sounds? You just can't. Photos capture
a piece of the total experience, and if done well, evoke vivid memories.

And, like Joel, fear of failure is a factor, as well, darn near every time I
push the shutter release. But the pics keep coming out O.K., for the most
part. Focusing seems to be my biggest challenge, compounded by voices in my
head questioning my choice of lens, film, aperture, etc.. "Beginner's"
insecurities.

I really need to get serious, and begin recording details (aperture, shutter
speed, etc.) and comparing shots. I'm sure that will be a confidence
builder. It's hard to pull out a notebook and jot stuff down when I'm so
caught up in the moment. I'll TRY.
