Hi,

My article on diode conversions for the OM1 lists a few other sources for Ge 
diodes and has a long discussion of the various alternative diodes with lots of 
measurements.  In fact Ge small signal transistors (C-B or B-E connection)  are 
generally lower leakage and better suited than the 1N34A's but are often too 
large to fit easily. Transistors are often available from surplus stores that 
carry transistors as well as NTE.

NTE is probably generally a good place to try as they are available through 
hobby electronics stores (and even Consumer stores like Frys Electronics in CA) 
and may even do mail order.
