Dick, I never let the ISP filters do the job for me. Instead I use an
outstanding app that integrates with both my email clients, Apple Mail and
BareBones Mailsmith. This app is called SpamSieve, uses bayesian logic as part
of its tools and allows custom rules as well, and is incredibly effective. Spam
management is reduced to a quick scan of folder contents before deletion and a
handlful of training actions (keyboard shortcut to designate as spam). To make
things faster, I also have a mail client rule set to trash everything that is
not addressed to one of my accounts unless it is related to enumerated senders.
It leaves everything else in the dust, including Apple Mail's crappy spam
