I don't  know why Ken thinks that there is barbed wire around the  
Cathedral.  Have a look on Google Earth (or maps.google.co.uk and  
click on Satellite) and search on Ely, Cambridgeshire, UK.

There were many islands in the Fens, Ely was only one of them.  Most  
churches in the area are on high ground which formed islands when the  
Fens were flooded.

As I have already mentioned, they are thinking of re-flooding some  
parts of the Fens to return the land to marsh for wildlife, but all  
they would have to do to protect the area from rising sea levels  
would be to increase the size of the defences.  Yes, I know, that  
would be a large undertaking, but the infrastructure is there.
