Even if the OM-2n *seems* to like LR44 batteries you should change it
back to silver oxide. The reason has to do with voltage levels of the
different battery types as they discharge. The voltage level of
alkaline batteries drops very fast as they discharge. The voltage level
of silver oxide batteries stays almost constant until they are nearly
exhausted. The OM auto exposure bodies are very sensitive to voltage
level. While the alkaline battery may still be able to deliver a large
current flow and it may still work well in a different device it will
soon fail in an OM auto exposure body due to insufficient voltage.

When I first got an OM-2s I thought there was a short circuit in the
camera and I didn't use it for several years until after joining this
list. Even if I didn't use the camera the batteries wouldn't power the
camera anymore after just 4-6 weeks sitting in the closet. That's
partially because the bodies after the 2n do not have a power switch.
They're never really off and are always drawing a small current which
the 2n does not do. Although the current draw is very small it manages
to lower the voltage of an alkaline battery very quickly. Once I
changed the 2s over to silver oxide batteries I began to get battery
life of 6-9 months even with usage.

Get rid of all batteries for OM's that are not silver oxide. Even a
converted OM-1 should use silver oxide batteries. The constant voltage
characteristic of the silver oxide battery was also a characteristic of
mercury oxide batteries. They are used since they avoid the need for a
voltage regulator.
