Hi,

ND, which stands for Neutral Density, is a way of decreasing the light
falling onto the film/sensor without affecting the colour balance. Most
other filters alter the spectral content of the light in some way, but
an ND filter (in theory) reduces the amount of light without altering
its spectral content.

See here for a little more info :

Hope that helps, and sorry if it's too simplistic.

Jon

What can I use a ND Filter for besides making water
look smooth/creamy!?? Can a polarizer take place of a
ND filter or vice versa?

Thanks.
