Nice idea - but how does one check it when the door won't open?

It's possible to gain access to the film chamber that would allow an 
implement entry to force the latch intoopen position with more force 
that is possible using the rewind knob.

Unfortunately, it requires removal of the bottom plate, which not 
entirely straightforward, as a part of it in the middle front extends up 
under the focus ring. So partial disassembly of the front may also be 
necessary.

I did all that many years ago, when my XA stopped working. I actually 
fixed it. A small, thin washer was loose in the works and had found its 
way into a place where it blocked the action. I couldn't see where it 
came from nor find anything else loose, so I simply removed it and 
reassembled the parts I had removed. It's worked ever since, something 
over 20 years.

Unfortunately, I don't remember disassembly details at this late date. 
However, I didn't have access then to the exploded diagram available on 
Mark's wonderful hardware site.
