Amongst the free converters the one I've found that works best is Handbrake,
http://handbrake.fr. I usually use the latest nightly build as it has more
features and is relatively stable, the Windows version can be downloaded from
here: https://build.handbrake.fr/view/Nightlies/job/Windows. The latest
version does an incredible job of compressing the video when transcoding using
the constant quality setting.
