Not sure my socks would attract or repel skeeters, but I have noticed
that I get more bites around my ankles than anywhere else. I always
assumed it was because of those that newly emerged and the denser air
near the surface. Also, bats and other flying eaters tend to not fly
that close to the ground so there is safety there. In fact, you can
look across a field or body of water and if the light is right, you'll
see a vernerable carpet of bugs within a frog's tongue distance.

When skeeters and other bugs of that genre rise up, it is believed
that they rise up in carbon dioxide plumes. They are attracted to
carbon dioxide as it leads to warm-blooded creatures.
