If you're a true doubting Thomas you might stop to ask why you should be 
concerned about cholesterol at all... other than maybe it should be 
higher.  This is one of many papers that show that for elderly people 
(this study says 71 and up) the higher your cholesterol the longer 
you'll live.  It considers not just heart disease but total mortality.

Other papers say the same for all but middle aged men.  And no paper 
ever published has ever shown that cholesterol is a heart disease risk 
factor for women of any age.
