Agree, and there is native ISO too, it is the ISO that give you maximum D-range. For tungsten shot, use blue filter gives lower noise image and more bits to use. You never know how shallow the bit depth a camera sensor gives until you deal with some really thin scene, the extreme is shooting an underexposed or faded negative, the blue channel is always a problem.

Actually,  in a way, sensors do have a native white balance.  An
uncorrected, but debayered image will be pretty close to daylight balance.
This is done on purpose to give the widest usable dynamic range and color
depth. The more you have to color correct an image, the fewer the usable
bits you have to work with.
