I've just finished the reading of a post of Ian Burley about that...
here's is quote (from rec.photo.digital)
<<<<<<<<<<
Am I an Olympus supporter biased against Canon? Absolutely not! I have
excellent relations with both Olympus and Canon. I was privileged to be one
of just three UK journalists to be invited by Canon to visit Japan in June
2001 in order to tour their factories. If you look at my site you will see
that I published very extensive coverage (some complained of it being over
the top!) of the EOS-300D launch in the UK. I am also a Canon system user,
replacing my old Olympus OM system about 10 years ago with Canon EOS gear.
However, I haven't used my EOS stuff recently as I only have a film body.
What's stopped me from investing in a D30, D60 or a 10D (a 1D/1Ds is out of
my budget!) - that problem of squaring the lens circle with the small sensor
square. I do find the Olympus Four Thirds proposal very convincing because,
to me, it makes a lot of sense. But I'm the first to say that Olympus has a
lot to prove and even they agree that technical ability is no guarantee of
commercial success.

I'd like to think that I'm not so blinkered as to let my natural
faithfulness to my existing camera system (Canon) to colour my view in what
might be better now or in the future (Olympus or even another newcomer).

as you can see it's an old OM user so it's not OT :)))
in the thread about that: [Olympus E-1 hands-on notes] somebody have made
an interesting comparison between the price of the Canon 10D and the E-1
with an equivalent range of optics and the global price looks the same...
BTW I had the opportunity today to touch and look in the viewfinder of the
Canon 300D the viewfinder is not very bright but the lens was only a F3.5
and the place was rather dark...
About the feeling of the "plastic" body it's not far from "our IS-3000" and
of course the price is lighter too and with the adapter that C.H.Ling
already use, there is a possibility to use our Zuikos...
