Does the RD have issues with the trap mechanism getting caught up if the
front plate just below the VF/RF window is slightly bent inwards? I
discovered this on an RC while I was cleaning the VF. I found that it caused
a hangup/sluggishness issue with the shutter release not to dissimilar to
Simons problem. On the RC the metal below the VF/RF window is so thin that
it is easily bent and just required a small straightening to clear the issue
up.

You're not being difficult in expecting your camera to operate properly.
Especially when pressed slowly, the aperture should go to the right setting,
pressing quickly often causes errors (on auto) because trap mechanism hits
meter needle too quickly and may make it bounce to the wrong step setting.
