As Mark Dapoz wrote, naptha is not a simple element, but a mixture of
hydrocarbons.
Crude oil is such a mixture, containing x% of element A, y% element B, etc,
and various crudes from around the world are made by different percentages
of these hydrocarbons.
Generally speaking, gasoline is made from the lighter part of crude (octane
and likes), diesel is a distillate from a heavier part, tar is even
heavier.
And then the summer gasoline is slighty different from the winter one
(slighty heavier, it contains less volatile elements, for example butane);
the same is for diesel, where in summer it can contain paraffin, but not in
winter.
In Italy nafta is a synonym of diesel, but I suspect that in the States it
is a mixture like gasoline. I will have a look at home where I have a book
about oil refineries.
