Hmmm . . . timing of this is oddly coincidental. Just today I
received a new-to-me film scanner that was acquired partly because I
wanted to provide better quality files for the Odyssey.

In his earlier response Simon said he didn't want to apportion blame.
While I can appreciate his forbearance, I wonder if that's the best
approach. To those how are wiser (and perhaps more temperate) about
such things I ask -- is saying "Oh, well" the best course of action?

Andrew McPhee and the others who took action in good faith are let
down by the inaction of a few others. Actually, this died pretty
early so I can see why Andrew pulled the plug. Nine people in
twenty-four weeks with seventy more to go?

Steve Dropkin wonders if we're "too busy". I wonder if that is simply
an easy excuse for being poorly organized. I'm ashamed to say I've
used it myself. Those who decided against participating or were "too
busy" could have easily let Andrew know (as did Richard) and the
camera would have skipped to the next person. I bet those who were
"too busy" weren't "too busy" to send other email.

The end of the OM Odyssey is obviously NOT a matter of life and death,
but it is unfortunate. Certainly unexpected circumstances arise that
preclude participation in an event to which one has committed and I'm
sure we all understand that. Personally, I'll take this as a lesson
for how my inaction can affect and disappoint a lot more people than
just little old me.

To Andrew, John Hermanson (who took the time and made the effort to
ensure the camera was working well), Stephen Troy and the others who
stepped up, my thanks and best regards.
