Perhaps indeed I am forgetting. 
On the other hand, perhaps I never realised that possibility :-)  - although
the modern English 'interior' is obviously a Latin comparative.
O me miserum, how I wish I had Lewis & Short to hand! But even so, that only
clarifies the meaning of intima, it doesn't alter the parsing of the phrase.

Thanks for that, but perhaps you are forgetting that "intimus" is the
superlative of "interior", meaning "inmost".  Therefore, taken by itself, it
could mean the "interiors of veins".  In which case it might take the plural
feminine form

But I like the phrase, nonetheless, and you are probably right . . .
