Hi Ken,

I have used the 2x6 approach in my garage for a couple of mounts, but never 
for an installation where vibration was a consideration.  Nevertheless, I 
think it would work.  My suggestion is to forego the asthetics and use lag 
screws with wrenching heads, with washers beneath the heads.  That way, as 
things settle and compress, it is a simple matter to take another quarter 
turn on the screws, to snug it up again.
