But that is my entire point. It's really hard to adjust and should be linked to 
the orientation of the vehicle. If you are trying to shift gear (in a 
roundabout) and you want to indicate your intention to exit the roundabout, 
it's bloody tricky if the shift and the indicator switch are on the same side. 
If they are opposite, it's simple to flick the switch with the hand that's on 
the wheel. But at present, in the UK, it seems to be positioned at random, 
depending on the make and origin of the car. If they were opposed to the gear 
shift, it would be far easier to readjust as you are 'rehanding' anyway.

Do you not have large and complex roundabouts in the US? They aren't popular in 
Australia but in the Uk and France, they are a plague. It was in France that I 
saw my first triple roundabout!

Your argument, Sir,  is about as valid as insisting that all cars should be 
left hand drive, even in countries that drive on the left, so that you 
personally don't get confused when entering the vehicle!
