I've used the Tamron SP 90mm 2.5 with a Tamron SP BBAR 2X converter and it
works quite well....real nuisance to get all the pieces coupled though.
Also, it weighs a ton!

That's an interesting idea Chaya (I assume that that is a typo and
that you mean 90/2.5 or 2.8).  I should really like to know which is
the best 3rd party x2 to use.
