This didn't sound right, so I checked out some old Modern Photography
tests of OMs. One of the things they measured was the apparent viewing
distance of the screen and the displays. The results I have are:

OM-2S:
apparent viewing distance: 29 inches
apparent distance of shutter speed scale: 39 inches

OM-3
apparent viewing distance: 39 inches
apparent distance of shutter speed scale: 39 inches

OM-4T
apparent viewing distance: adjustable between 13 inches and 39 inches
apparent distance of shutter speed scale: adjustable between 13 inches
and 39 inches

OM-77AF
apparent viewing distance: 32 inches
apparent distance of shutter speed scale: 39 inches
apparent distance of aperture scale: 39 inches

OM-88
apparent viewing distance: 39 inches
apparent distance of LED display scale: 39 inches

These numbers raise a few questions in my head. I would have expected the
OM-3 numbers to be the same as the OM-4T numbers. Perhaps they didn't
bother to measure at the differing diopter settings. Also the OM-2S
number of 29 inches I suspect is a misprint and should be 39 inches.
Bottom line is the apparent viewing distance is more like 1m, not 2m like
people have been saying here.

Hope this helps,

Paul Schings
