With the 4/3" sensor the 4/3 is not an aspect ratio. Most digicam sensors have a 4/3 aspect ratio. It is related to an arcane measurement of the glass tube diameter of old television camera sensors. Here is a good site that explains a bit about sensor sizes:

When you consider that both Canon and Nikon brought out cameras based on the APS size sensor which is only a small percentage larger than the sensor Olympus has said should be the new standard, it does seem kind of perverse. Sort of like someone arriving very late at a formal party in a Halloween costume and declaring it a masquerade ball.

4/3" is 18.000 x 22.500mm and is 3 x 4.

2 Canons and 2 Nikons use 15.6 x 23.7 mm and is 2 x 3 like 35mm film.
