I always assumed that the differences in slide film, for scanning
purposes, are small compared to color negative films with their various
masks. After all when you scan a slide you are trying to get what you
see on the slide and varying curves should not be necessary unless you
are trying to change that look. You would change film if you wanted to
do that. I think the special Kodachrome setting is there because of
the special problems with scanning that film.
