I don't think I was communicating what I intended.  In both cases you 
have shown I think there is an "error" in the exposure but the error is 
one of intention... not planning for enough flash to bring the subject 
up to the background level.  I think the error is larger than a small 
discrepancy between advertised and actual guide number.  That 
discrepancy might be about 1/3 stop or worst case 1/2 stop.
