I used to cycle along the beach with my Leica M8 around my neck, but after some
time of doing that the buttons on the camera started acting up. I sent it to
Solms and their diagnosis was that a liquid had entered the camera and corroded
parts of it, fortunately nothing that could not be replaced, and the camera was
still within the Passport guarantee period (the Passport is unique to Leica and
covers all damage, regardless of cause, for 2 years). Since then, I have
separated the two activities. I do carry a point and shoot in the handlebar bag
of my bicycle in case I come across something exceptional that just cries out
for a picture, but the good cameras stay at home.
