Sorry, I didn't notice it was talking about format the card in computer, I 
never did that. So far for all CF cards I use personally does not have one 
failure. BTW, I switch card every two years or so, the old ones were give 
away with the camera I sold. I  will not buy extra memory card if not 
necessary, now I only use one 8G CF for my 5D II, it is good for one day 
use. If I'm going to a longer trip I will purchase another 8 or 16G and 
bring a notebook for image backup.
