Indeed. When I built my house in 2000, the front yard was landscaped
according to Homeowner Association rules that required mature looking
plants. I had three 10 foot Crepe Myrtles planted that had been grown in
the ground at the nursery and transplanted into my front yard. In the
process they lost about half (if not more) of their root ball. The rest of
the yard was landscaped by me following my own rule of "$5 plant in a $50
hole". In the back yard I planted small (three feet) pot-grown Crepe
Myrtles. Fourteen years later, the large CM's planted by the landscaper are
15 feet tall and the ones I planted are 25 feet tall. Sure would have saved
a bunch of dough to have done them all my way.
